Two Ponds Planted with Native Plants TODAY!!!!
It was a very exciting day today. Two ponds were planted with native littoral shelf plantings. These ponds were funded from a grant received from the Sarasota Bay Estuary Fund. It was amazing to watch the installation process, which was done by Sandhill Environmental Services. 5000 plants were installed today and 4 men managed it in a very stream-lined fashion. We had extra flowering Pickerel Weed and Duckpotato plants that they were able to fill in some of the open areas of our original Pilot Pond. These native plants will improve the water quality that flows into the Sarasota Bay. The plants will facilate the return of native wildlife. Dragonflies (that keep the mosquito population down), with a variety of colors and markings, are already flocking on the plant tops.
